I understand from Mr. Gent that you have been enquiring whether the profits of the Hong Kong
Exchange Equalisation Fund, which are at the moment held by the Crown Agents, should be paid over to the Treasury in accordance with the offer made by the Government of Hong Kong, to devote the profits of the Fund We to His Majesty's Government. have heard nothing on this point from the Hong Kong Government, and I think the best course would be for you to telegraph to the Colonial Secretary asking whether they wish you to pay the monies over at present. If the reply is in the affirmative would you please take this minute as authority for you to make payment to the Treasury.
